Joints, Muscles, Nerves and Discs
Most dysfunctions around a joint occur as a result of the body's adaptation to daily living. Sitting for 8-10 hours a day, typing at a keyboard for years creates a body that's good at sitting and typing (to a fault). Eventually, this faulty adaptation causes a breakdown in the body leading to carpal tunnel, deep venous thrombosis (clots behind the knee), and disc injury to the neck and back, headaches...the list of symptoms goes on.
Exercise is one way to combat the effects of the daily trauma; however, every individual body has its limitations. In essence, the execution of certain tasks like walking, or lifting weights can be destructive due to the need of stabilization for those tasks that may be missing or atrophied. Strained muscles, sprained ligaments or tendons, partially dislodged joints and compressed discs secondary to activity lead to drugs and surgery by conventional means.
The spinal column is the nervous system's fortification against trauma and its major conduit for distributing billions of communications every day between the environment and the brain and back out. Supported by curvatures that buffer stresses from the outside world, the individual vertebrae are literally wrapped in a package of ligaments, discs and muscles. The brain depends on the relationships between these structures to be optimal; otherwise the process of muscle compensation begins at all costs, even sacrificing movement for stability and protection. Compensation is a second best method for what was originally designed; therefore, exercise without restoration of normal movement can cause more damage to an unprepared and underperforming body.
